Sniffing out the New Year BS.
2022 is here!
How do you feel about that?
Are you glad to have a “fresh start”? Happy to see the back end of last year? Or are you feeling sad and overwhelmed with all the emotions from the last 2 years, and the expectations wrapped in uncertainty of the next 365 days?
Either way I want you to know it’s ok to feel what you are feeling.
Everywhere you turn now you will probably see some image, post, or article preaching some New Year New Me BS. And whilst I 100% believe it can be a great thing to finally take charge of your life, go on a journey of growth and learn how to reach your goals; I also appreciate that the majority of the preachers are trying to make money by selling you a promise that they might not be able to keep.
Lose 50lbs in 2 weeks for only £49.99!!!
So how do you sniff out the pure money-making schemes from the companies and people who actually care about your goals and happiness?
Ask these questions when contemplating a product or service:
Are they promising you the world?
Does it seem too good to be true?
Is there a ridiculous New Year discount?
Is the time frame that they promise you results questionably short?
Are they telling you restriction is the answer to your prayers?
These are just some of the major red flags to be wary of when being sucked into the wonderful world of marketing.
And it might sound obvious, you might think “I’m not stupid! I wouldn’t fall for any of that”; but that is the manipulation of marketing, praying on peoples’ insecurities… you don’t even see it coming, it just grabs you and gets in your head until you buy into it.
So, this year move with caution when jumping on a bandwagon.
Invest in yourself, in your happiness, in your development - whatever that may be. However, know that patience and consistency are two main ingredients for success, and you are worth the effort of the journey, not just the destination. Don’t waste your money and time on the quick-fixes, fads and empty promises; instead take a breath and step in for the long haul.
It might seem scary; you might be itching for results with limited effort, but I promise you will get there a hell of a lot quicker without the constant yoyoing and beginning from scratch.
Take away:
it is not a race to the finish line
you are worth the time and effort
if someone promises you all your dreams on a plate with a short period of time for delivery, especially if it is discounted to unreal lengths, they are probably just after your money, and you should move with caution.
chasing the “perfect” plan is only going to leave you unsatisfied. So let go of perfection, let go of mimicking other people’s journeys and just focus in on you.
learn to enjoy the process and the destination won’t seem so far away.
We are all unique individuals with different needs and situations, so your fave insta booty gal’s or ab shred guy’s programme won’t necessarily be the answer to your dreams.
Credible coaches are out there, but like you would try on a few outfits before deciding which one to buy, do your research and find one that is a good fit for you.
