Tips for creating your morning routine.
How do you start the day? Are you a get up and go as soon as the alarm goes off type of person? Or are you a hit snooze for as long as you can kind of guy?
Believe it or not having a good morning routine can hugely effect how you spend the rest of your day. It can affect you mood, your energy levels and your productivity amongst other things. Yet, it is not about cramming in a whole host of different things before work or before the rest of your day can begin. It is a personal thing that is about setting intention, taking control and developing habits that best serve you.
So rather than pressuring yourself to follow the same routine your favorite influencer claims they do each morning, let go of the stress stick and develop something that works for you. It can take 10minutes or an hour, it might contain one thing or several, the point is it is yours and should be helping you start the day right, not stressing you out.
Tips on creating your morning routine.
Start off with a basic skeleton routine. Something that takes hardly any time but prioritizes the things that will get you off to a good start.
You can add to or remove stuff as and when, so remove the pressure of perfecting it.
Trial and error. Some things might seem like a great addition yet they just might not work in practice.
Try to include:
Something to wake up your body.
Something to help your mindset.
Something productive.
Something to make you smile.
As an example:
I press play on a morning playlist whilst still in bed (smile), after a song or two I get up and do a little stretch and include 10 press ups (body), I make my bed and drink a glass of water (productive), then I read and repeat the affirmation/intention I set for myself the night before (mind). This is my skeleton routine, it can take as little as 10minutes, can be done where ever I am and can be added to/made longer if I have the time and desire.
It doesn’t need to be complicated.
You might choose to include reading (productive) or gratitude (mind), exercise or a dance to your favorite song (body/body and smile) but whatever you do, do it for you.
You might be in a place where literally getting in the habit of making your bed each morning is all you can do right now. That is fine. Take it one step at a time. You can always add things later down the line. It is better to make small habit changes that you can stick to than doing too much too soon and struggling to sustain it. (And I would recommend to everyone to make their bed each morning if they do nothing else).
Final thoughts…
Remove the pressure of being perfect, and of nailing it everyday. Start small and give yourself room to grow. Put in the effort now and you will thank yourself for it later down the line. Find what works for you. Start the day in a way that makes you feel like the day has been won before it’s even begun.
You are worth the effort.
